Our History

An outdoor Bible Club at McKinley Park in Syracuse over the summer of 2002 attracted a group of children who formed the core group of a Bible Club that continued on at a local church throughout the school year.

Over the years, the club time evolved to include Tutoring Time, Life Skills Classes, Special Activities, Camp time, Specialty Camps and committed prayer partners. It became increasingly apparent that the more time spent with children, the greater the impact in their lives.

This led to discussion of starting a school where there would be opportunity to address all the components of life within a Biblically based setting, helping each child to reach his or her God given potential.

A school advisory board was formed and we became members of the Street School Network (a Christian organization that has helped to start 50 urban schools nationwide). As an incorporated non-profit organization, we have a committed Board of Directors to oversee our development.

Our Approach

Eagle Wings Academy opened its doors in September 2008 with students in 1st through 9th grades. We use multi-graded classes, limited to no more than 10 students per class. This provides the teacher with the best opportunity to individualize instruction for each student. We also make extensive use of volunteers who assist with our personalized approach by helping individuals or small groups of students with specific targeted academic assistance. All of the required New York State courses are taught, in addition to Bible class, weekly Chapel, and the opportunity for service outside the school.
